CHECK IN FOR DEPARTURE
DO NOT BE LATE. Check-in is at 7:30am on Wednesday, March 21st of students will take time, so please do not arrive at the last minute. You will go to the check in table to confirm your child’s presence, lack of electronics, and other details before being given your child’s bus assignment.
Please enter at the big yard from the 9th Street gate, near the teachers’ parking lot. You won’t be able to park on the west side of 9th because we have to leave that space open for bus arrival. There will be people and cones indicating where the buses need to park and the entire process bogs down if even one car parks in this area. Please follow the instructions of the incredibly generous 4th grade parents who have woken up early to help us get our kids on the road.
Please feed your child a good breakfast before s/he leaves for camp. No snack is needed! For the bus ride, we’ll provide bagels and water. Any food left over is thrown away upon arrival (including anything you’ve packed). No food/candy/gum is allowed in cabins due to bugs and bears. Lunch will be served at camp.
All medications must be submitted to the medications table at check in. As explained in the Pali Institute parent pack that you signed, medications must be kept in their original bottle / packaging or they will not be given to you child while at camp. The original bottle/packaging will allow the camp nurse to identify the prescribing physician (if a prescription drug), the name of the medication, the dosage, and the frequency of administration. If you are sending up medications with your child that you did not list on your parent health form, you must include a signed note listing such medication, its purpose and required dosage. Please call (909) 867-5743 if you have any questions.
Please make sure your child has everything listed on the student-packing-list (attached and also available at http://rooseveltschoolpta.org/
Please ensure particularly that your child has enough warm layers, and waterproof shoes or boots. Uggs and sneakers are NOT waterproof. Pali Institute has specifically asked us to remind you NOT to pack ANY shorts. Long pants are required the entire time at camp. Use this website for the most reliable weather reports (www.noaa.gov), type in “Running Springs” as the city.
Do not overpack. Your child will have to carry, keep track of, and re-pack all of his/her own stuff. If you are sending a sleeping bag that is smushed into a teeny duffle, be sure your child can quickly stuff it back in when it’s time to leave. Otherwise, just put the sleeping bag into the suitcase/duffel with the clothes. Again, less is more!
Everything you send should be labeled and easy to manage. Sleeping bags look very similar, so please make sure your child’s is labeled with her/his name.
The last half-hour of the trip to Pali is on a windy, mountain road. If your child gets car sick, you may want to give him/her non-drowsy Dramamine before s/he boards the bus.
ON RETURN DATE
The kids are expected to arrive back at school between 1:30-2:00 pm. You can pick up your kid(s) from school as soon as they return. They will be very tired. If your child is not picked upon bus arrival, s/he will be allowed to stay at school until 3:00. If they have CREST or any other after school option, they can go to that as well. We do encourage you to try to get to school as soon as possible, as it will have been a long three days for everyone.
The Roosevelt main office will send a robocall and email when the kids arrive at Pali, and again when they are departing. They are expected to leave between 11 and 11:30am.
We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early at check-in!
