Super Read-a-thon 2020

What is the Read-a-thon?
The Read-a-thon is a fun PTA program that promotes literacy and creates good reading habits that will last a lifetime. It is also a time to help our school raise needed funds for future programs that benefit all the children of Roosevelt.

When is the Read-a-thon?
We are excited for a SUPER sized Read-a-thon! This year, the entire month of February is dedicated reading.  Fundraising and reading logs begin on Tuesday, February 18th and Monday, March 2nd . All monies pledged must be turned in by Friday March 6th to be eligible for the various prizes.

How does my child participate in the Read-a-thon?
During the Read-a-thon EVERY CHILD in the school maintains a reading log. Minutes logged includes anytime spent reading books or music, their “being read to” time, or for younger TK and K students sitting and looking at a book.

Your child has the option of gathering sponsors to make pledges for their reading time or for a flat donation. Any amount raised will help and is greatly appreciated! These sponsors are typically you, family, close friends and neighbors, and parent’s work associates. No child should go door to door.  See the Sponsor Envelope and Prize Sheet for more details on how to donate and win prizes for money raised to support our school.

This year, students can earn up to two Reward Tickets for simply turning in a completed reading log on the due dates of February 18th and March 2nd.  Teachers will award the tickets upon receipt of the completed reading logs.  Students can redeem the tickets for a free book and a Roosevelt Read-a-thon water bottle on Fridays February 21st and March 6th during lunch or at Popcorn Friday.

What makes the Read-a-thon special and fun?

Reading Lounge – Monday, February 3rd through Friday, February 7th
The auditorium will be transformed into a relaxing Reading Lounge to give students an additional opportunity to log minutes during lunchtime recess. Students may bring their own book or choose from a selection of Roosevelt Library books.

Pajama Night – Tuesday, February 11th
All TK, Kindergarten and 1st Grade students are invited to return to school in their PJ’s at 6pm for a special story time. Our fabulous teachers will be reading their favorite bedtime stories in the kindergarten classrooms. This is not a drop off event. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

NEW!  Super Reader Summit
2nd / 3rd Grades – Tuesday, February 18th
4th / 5th Grades – Tuesday, February 25th

All 2nd-5th grade students are invited to participate in our new Super Reader Summits:  Two grade level specific evenings full of fun activities to promote the love of reading.  Beginning at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium, centers will include a Read Aloud, Art Station, and Sketch Notes.  Students are encouraged to bring their favorite book for the Read Aloud center and are welcome to wear PJs or dress as their favorite literary superhero – fictional or real-life!  THIS IS NOT A DROP OFF EVENT.  Siblings are welcome but also encouraged to attend their own grade level event.
